Mounting a child seat on Booda Bikes
Rider and passenger safety, and the integrity of the frame, come first. Please read the following rules before you buy a child seat or a rear rack.
1. The approved solution: a child seat on a rear rack
Section titled “1. The approved solution: a child seat on a rear rack”The only approved and safe way to carry a child on a Booda Bike is a child seat mounted on a certified rear luggage rack.
- Recommended rear rack: Racktime GLEAMIT 2.0 TOUR (AC, 28/29 inch version). This rack gives the necessary clearance, structural stability and load rating.
- Integrated rear light: this rack comes with an integrated rear light.
- If your bike has no integrated lighting system, the light unit can simply be unbolted and removed.
- If your bike has a Supernova system or another hardwired power source and you want to connect the light to it, choose the DC version.
- Upper mounting bracket:
- The rack comes with two side mounting stays as standard.
- Booda Bike frames have a central mounting point on the rear bridge. In our workshop we adapt the bracket for this: we drill a center hole into the mounting bracket and flip the stays, which gives a rigid single-bolt central mount. We have tested this configuration extensively under full child-seat load.
- Child seat: choose a child seat designed for rear racks (for example the rack-mounted Thule Yepp or Nexxt series). Always check that the child’s weight together with any luggage stays within the rack’s rated capacity.
Other rear racks
Section titled “Other rear racks”This guide approves only the rack named above for carrying a child seat. We sell the Tubus rear rack for luggage (see Installing the Tubus rear rack), but we have not confirmed it for child-seat use. If you already have a Tubus or another rack, contact us before you mount a child seat on it.
2. Child seats that clamp to the seat tube: not permitted
Section titled “2. Child seats that clamp to the seat tube: not permitted”We strongly advise against child seats that clamp onto the frame’s seat tube (cantilever or floating-bracket seats).
Why:
- Seat tube integrity: Booda seat tubes are precision-made with optimized wall thickness to save weight and absorb road vibration. A cantilevered seat concentrates heavy torsional load and leverage on this tube, which can deform it or lead to structural failure.
- Seatpost insertion depth: Booda Bikes come with seatposts sized for the rider, without unnecessary extra length. The post therefore does not reach deep enough below the seat cluster to reinforce the tube against a heavy external clamp.
Summary
Section titled “Summary”Carry a child seat only on the recommended rear rack setup. If you have questions about the rack, the bracket modification or seat compatibility, contact us.
Can I use a child seat that clamps to the seat tube?
No. We strongly advise against child seats that clamp onto the frame’s seat tube. Booda seat tubes have optimized wall thickness, and a cantilevered seat concentrates heavy torsional load on that tube, which can deform it or cause it to fail. Use a rack-mounted child seat on the rear rack named in this guide.
