Carbon Seatpost Assembly & Installation

Our bikes can be ordered with an optional carbon seatpost. To install a carbon seatpost safely in a steel frame, follow these rules.

Always use carbon assembly paste, never ordinary grease, and tighten the seatpost clamp to 5–6 Nm, never more than 6 Nm. This keeps the seatpost from slipping without damaging it or the frame.

If your bike was ordered with the carbon seatpost, a sachet of carbon assembly paste comes with it. Apply it to the seatpost before you insert the post into the frame. This friction paste increases the grip between the post and the frame, so the post does not slip or twist without the need for excessive clamping force.

Never use ordinary bicycle grease on a carbon seatpost. Grease reduces friction, and the seatpost will slide down while you ride.

Always use a torque wrench, and tighten the clamp to 5–6 Nm. Do not exceed 6 Nm. Over-tightening can crush or crack the carbon.

Can I use grease on a carbon seatpost?

No. Grease reduces friction, so a carbon seatpost will slide down while you ride, and tightening the clamp harder to stop it can crush the carbon. Use carbon assembly paste instead, and tighten the clamp with a torque wrench to 5–6 Nm, never more than 6 Nm.
