Storage and Weather
Good storage protects the bike from corrosion, premature wear and avoidable service work. Weather care matters most after wet, salty, muddy or very cold rides.
Best place to store the bike
Section titled “Best place to store the bike”Store the bike in a dry, secure, ventilated place. Avoid long-term storage in standing water, heavy moisture or direct heat, and in places where the bike can be knocked over.
After rain
Section titled “After rain”After a wet ride:
- Wipe the bike dry.
- Check the belt and sprockets for dirt.
- Check the brakes before the next ride.
- Let bags, grips, saddle and accessories dry fully.
Winter and road salt
Section titled “Winter and road salt”Road salt speeds up corrosion. After a salty ride, gently rinse or wipe the bike, dry it, and check the bolts, the belt, the brakes, the racks, the mudguards and the accessory mounts. See Cleaning for what to avoid when washing.
Long-term storage
Section titled “Long-term storage”Before storing the bike for a longer period:
- clean and dry it
- inflate the tires to a suitable pressure (see Tire pressure)
- store it so the tires are not sharply compressed
- remove loose accessories if needed
- check the bike before riding again (see Daily safety check)
