What Does Warranty Cover?

Relevant Terms & Conditions

5. Warranty

In plain languageIf the product arrives with a fault or damage, tell us promptly — within 14 days of noticing it — and we will deal with it.

The binding text

If the delivered product shows a visible material or manufacturing defect, including damage sustained during shipping, please notify us of the defect without delay after discovering it, and in any case within 14 days of discovery — through our contact form (help.boodabike.com/contact-us), or to the carrier’s representative upon receipt of the goods. Please note that you may no longer assert your statutory warranty rights after the two-year limitation period from performance of the contract has elapsed.

Under your statutory warranty rights, you may choose to request repair or replacement, unless the chosen remedy is impossible or would impose disproportionate additional costs on the business compared to the alternative remedy. If repair or replacement was not requested or could not be requested, you may claim a proportionate price reduction, have the defect repaired or have it repaired by a third party at the business’s expense, or, as a last resort, withdraw from the contract. You are not entitled to withdraw from the contract in the case of a minor defect.

You may switch from your originally chosen warranty remedy to another, but you will bear the cost of doing so, unless the switch was justified or caused by the business. Within one year of performance, no condition other than notification of the defect applies to enforcing your warranty claim. After one year from performance, however, you must prove that the defect you have identified already existed at the time of performance.

In the event of a defective product, you may — at your choice — assert either the statutory warranty right described above or a product liability claim. Under a product liability claim, you may only request repair or replacement of the defective product. A product is defective if it does not meet the quality requirements in force at the time it was placed on the market, or does not have the characteristics described by the manufacturer. You may assert a product liability claim within two years from the date the product was placed on the market by the manufacturer, and only against the manufacturer or distributor of the movable item. You must prove the defect yourself when asserting a product liability claim.

The manufacturer (distributor) is exempt from product liability only if it can prove that:

  • it did not manufacture or place the product on the market in the course of its business activity; or
  • the defect was not detectable according to the state of science and technology at the time the product was placed on the market; or
  • the defect arose from compliance with a legal provision or mandatory regulatory requirement.

Please note that you cannot assert a statutory warranty claim and a product liability claim simultaneously and in parallel for the same defect. However, if your product liability claim is successful, you may assert a statutory warranty claim against the manufacturer for the replaced product or repaired part.

5.A Mandatory Warranty

In plain languageYou have two years of statutory warranty. In Hungary a separate mandatory guarantee applies on top, with its own rules.

The binding text

Customers are entitled to statutory warranty rights for a period of 2 years from purchase/receipt. An exception applies to Hungary, where the following rules apply:

Under the Civil Code and Government Decree 151/2003 (IX. 22.), the Provider is subject to a mandatory warranty obligation on its products where the buyer qualifies as a consumer under applicable law. The warranty period depends on the sale price of the product, as follows:

  • 1-year warranty for a sale price of HUF 10,000 up to but not exceeding HUF 100,000.
  • 2-year warranty for a sale price exceeding HUF 100,000 up to but not exceeding HUF 250,000.
  • 3-year warranty for a sale price exceeding HUF 250,000.

Start of the warranty period: The warranty period begins on the date the product is handed over to the consumer, or, if installation is carried out by the Provider or its agent, on the date of installation.

Rights under the warranty: Based on a warranty claim, the consumer may choose to request repair or replacement, unless the chosen remedy is impossible or would result in disproportionate additional costs to the Provider compared to the alternative remedy. If the Provider has not undertaken repair or replacement, or cannot fulfil this obligation within a reasonable deadline, the consumer may request a proportionate reduction of the consideration or withdraw from the contract (withdrawal is not available for a minor defect).

Exceptions and exemption: The Provider is exempt from its warranty obligation only if it proves that the cause of the defect arose after performance (e.g. due to improper use, mechanical damage, improper storage, or lack of maintenance).

5.2 Use of External Service Providers and Cost Reimbursement Rules

In plain languageIf you want an independent repair shop to do warranty work, get our written approval first — otherwise we cannot reimburse the invoice.

The binding text

Approval requirement: Booda Bike will only pay or reimburse an invoice issued by an independent third-party bicycle repair shop chosen by the customer if Booda Bike customer service has approved, in writing (by email) and on a case-by-case basis, the reported defect and the repair before work begins, and has expressly authorized the repair up to a specified amount.

Lack of prior approval: If the customer has a repair carried out by a third-party service provider without Booda Bike’s prior written approval, Booda Bike is released from any obligation to reimburse the repair costs.

Submission of a quote: The customer must send Booda Bike a detailed quote from the third-party service provider before repair work begins.

Right to propose an alternative: If the quote, hourly rate, or estimated total cost provided by the third-party service is disproportionately high relative to the nature of the repair, Booda Bike reserves the right to refuse approval and propose an alternative solution. This may include, but is not limited to, designating another nearby service provider or arranging for the bicycle to be collected by its own courier and repaired at Booda Bike’s own workshop.

Warranty covers defects in material or workmanship. It does not cover normal wear, routine maintenance, or damage that arises after delivery, for example from improper use, mechanical damage such as a crash, improper storage or lack of maintenance.

The binding rules are in clause 5 of the shop terms. This page explains them in practice.

  • Statutory warranty rights: 2 years from purchase or receipt. Within the first year, you only need to tell us about the defect; after the first year, you must show that the defect already existed at delivery.

  • Hungary, mandatory warranty for consumers (clause 5.A): the period depends on the sale price:

    • HUF 10,000 up to HUF 100,000: 1 year
    • over HUF 100,000 up to HUF 250,000: 2 years
    • over HUF 250,000: 3 years

The period starts on the day the product is handed over to you.

A problem may be a warranty case if:

  • a part appears defective under normal use
  • a problem appears soon after delivery
  • it is not caused by a crash, an impact, incorrect assembly or normal wear

Damage that happened during delivery is also covered by your warranty rights. See Shipping and delivery for what to do at delivery.

  • worn tires, brake pads, rotors, grips, the belt, sprockets and other parts that wear with use
  • bolts that have loosened with use
  • adjustments needed after normal cable stretch or bedding-in
  • damage from a crash or impact, including during transport by you
  • damage from improper storage or lack of maintenance
  • problems caused by third-party accessories or modifications that we advise against (for example a trailer on the rear axle or a clamp-on kickstand)

If you are not sure which category your problem falls into, send us photos and we will tell you.

Tell us about the defect as soon as you discover it, and at the latest within 14 days of discovering it, through our contact form. Please send:

  • your order number or proof of purchase
  • your bike model and size
  • clear photos of the whole bike and of the affected part
  • a short description of the problem and when it started
  • a short video if the problem is a noise, a movement, or shifting or braking behavior

If you would like an independent workshop near you to do a warranty repair, our written approval is needed before the work starts. See Repairs at a local workshop.

If the problem may affect the brakes, steering, wheel security, frame, fork or drivetrain, stop riding and contact us before you use the bike again.

How long is the warranty on a Booda Bike?

Statutory warranty rights last 2 years from purchase or receipt. In Hungary, consumers also get a mandatory warranty whose length depends on the price: 3 years for a product over HUF 250,000. The binding rules are in clause 5 of the shop terms.

Are wear parts such as the belt, brake pads and tires covered?

Normal wear is not a defect. Parts that wear with use, such as tires, brake pads, rotors, grips, the belt and the sprockets, are replaced as part of normal maintenance. If such a part fails early because of a material or manufacturing defect, report it to us with photos and we will assess it.
