Shimano Alfine Internal Gear Hubs – Warranty and Service Procedure

Section titled “Shimano Alfine Internal Gear Hubs – Warranty and Service Procedure”

If you experience an issue with your Shimano Alfine hub-gear bicycle within the warranty period, please follow the procedure below for the fastest and most efficient resolution.

1. Involving an Authorised Shimano Service Centre

Section titled “1. Involving an Authorised Shimano Service Centre”

Under Shimano’s international warranty policy, official Shimano Service Centres are required to carry out inspections, repairs, or component replacements covered under warranty.

  • What should you do? Take the bicycle or the rear wheel to your nearest authorised Shimano Service Centre and request a warranty evaluation.
  • Is there a cost? If the defect is covered under warranty, the inspection and any necessary repair or replacement are free of charge to you.

2. Service Evaluation and Possible Outcomes

Section titled “2. Service Evaluation and Possible Outcomes”

The technicians at the service centre will inspect the hub to determine the cause and nature of the fault:

  • If the fault is covered under warranty:

The local Shimano Service Centre will complete the necessary repair or replacement under the manufacturer’s warranty at no cost to you.

  • If the service centre refuses to handle the claim free of charge:

If the official service centre agrees that the issue is a warranty defect but attempts to charge for labor or other costs, please request a written statement or report stating the exact reason for refusal. Under Shimano guidelines, contracted service centres may not transfer warranty administration costs to the customer. Once you forward this document to us, we will immediately escalate the matter to Shimano Europe.

  • If the local service centre refuses to cooperate:

Should it prove impossible to reach a solution through the local official service centre, BoodaBike will not leave you without support. Provided you have obtained the written statement from the local workshop, we will arrange for the wheel to be shipped back to our central workshop, where we will handle the repair or replacement ourselves.

  • If the fault is not covered under warranty:

If Shimano’s official technical report determines that the failure is not due to a manufacturing defect (for example, caused by improper maintenance, lack of required oil changes, or misuse), the repair cannot be carried out under warranty.

If any questions arise while at the service centre, or once you have received the official workshop report, please contact our customer support team referencing your warranty ticket code.
